Einville-au-Jard english summary (interim report)

On 3 February 2014 at about 7.30, in Einville-au-Jard in the département of Meurthe-et-Moselle, a coach providing a school bus service overturned in a bend into a ditch beside Départementale Road (RD) No 160.
There were fifty-five people on board this vehicle. One of them, a high-school pupil, died several days after the accident.
The on-site observations show that in the bend in which this accident occurred the surfacing of RD 160 had, on its right-hand side in the direction the coach was going, a significant pothole 1 causing an inversion of the camber which may have contributed to the accident involving this vehicle, the rear axle of which skidded off the road to the right.

Without waiting for the conclusions of the investigation and in order to prevent any similar accident from occurring again, BEA-TT therefore considered it necessary, pursuant to Article L. 1621-20 of the Transport Code, to recommend that the Département of Meurthe-et-Moselle should modify as soon as possible and in any event before the winter of 2014‑2015, the bend concerned, which is situated at the level of the small bridge over the Saules stream.
